You know, ever since I've smashed the fact that I'm getting the PS Vita into everyones faces; I get asked questions like: "why are you spending $300 on that?" or "when will you ever have the time to play games when you're not at home?" and even when I explain certain features on the Vita such as Cross-play or remote play, I am attacked by redundant answers "why would you even do that, it's stupid" A majority of the time, these people have never owned a handheld system in their life, they also fail to open their mind to different possibilities. BUT in the end, everyone has his or her own opinion right?. So I decided to enrich this blog with my portable history, and why I have decided to purchase the Vita. Let's start off with the GameBoy

Yes this is where it all started. I remember playing all the Mario and dk games, I would put in countless hours during the day because back then; these bad boys had no lighted screens. It was not until my parents bought me the gameboy color, when I discovered a game that set my path towards handheld gaming. Can you guess it? YEP it was Pokemon, Red Version to be exact. Growing up in the early 1990's, Pokemon was the crack-Cocaine for kids. You couldn't get enough of it, along with the game, you had the freaking tv show. I remember my cousin would sleep over every Friday night. We would wake extra early to watch a new episode of Ash and his adventures with Pikachu. After that, it was straight to our gameboy's. It was dead silent in my room. We knew as the hours passed, one of us would grow stronger than one another. One of us, had to be better. And back then, I carried my link cable with me just in case he wanted to get smashed again. It was those times of simplicity and pure entertainment, when I enjoyed portable gaming the most. After the Gameboy Color, there was the Gameboy Advance, then the SP. With those new systems, Pokemon lived on, and I continued to purchase future games. But did the fire of handheld gaming die within me? No. Again, I enjoyed the fact that I could game without the hassle of extra accessories, as well as have it on the go.

In light of keeping this short, let's jump to 2005, the release of the Playstation portable was announced. Before that, the bond between pokemon and I was long broken from something called *growing up* I begged and begged to have this PSP for about a year. Then come December 25(Christmas for those who don't know), I opened my PSP-1000(first model of the PSP) I was overwhelmed with the graphics and features that this machine could handle. I now can save music, movies, pictures, videos, and I could even surf the web, although it was slow at the time. Sony also tried to bring hardcore gamers to it's portable side by adding Infrastructure. This mode allowed players all over the world to play and interact with each other. The game I played most was the FireTeam Bravo series. How cool was it to play the favorited Socom anytime i wanted. I guess what I'm trying to emphasize is that, Portable gaming should not be looked down upon. It's not some gimmick of consoles like the Wii, xbox, or playstation. Portable gaming says a lot in it's name, it's portable people. I do enjoy having the option to play my favorite games when I'm waiting in a line, or when I'm on a bus, maybe I just want to lay in bed and game (no i'm not talking about angry birds). OR MAYBE I'm becoming a lazy fart I don't know.

Now the reason for buying the Vita. I admit to taking a leave from handheld systems for quite some time, but I wanna get back into it. This Vita has something more than just video games on the go, I can stay connected with facebook, twitter, and skype. It also has a full connection with psn so I can play and chat with friends. The upgraded web browser will allow me to blog when something spontaneous pops up in my puny brain. Most importantly, I want to review and inform others about this product, Especially in North America where we are behind Japanese releases by 100 years. Not everyone wants to go out and buy the thing without better knowing what it is. So yeah there it is, my portable history, hope this made sense. OH AND YOUR VITA UPDATE:
On February 8,2012. Japanese Vita's will be ready for firmware update 1.6. The update will add a new map app, and the ability to record video with the Vita's Camera.
